Today is Chances' Birthday!! L'anniversaire de Chance!!
Today is Chance's 27th birthday . Chance is a sweet sensitive little girl that loves to be noticed. If anyone takes a little time to make her feel special she will be a loyal friend. Her friends these past weeks have been Spock through the bars...they seem to enjoy each others company a great deal. She has also been spending time with the bigger group of folks Petra, Yoko, Rachel, Regis and Jethro. We had a amazing party with tons of enrichment and decorations a long time fauna volunteer Sharon Stewart brought with her during her visit.

Update on Alamogordo Transfer
Thursday - July 8, 2010 (posted in Project R&R News)
Public outrage continues over the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) plan to transfer an estimated 186 chimpanzees from the Alamogordo Primate Facility (APF) in New Mexico to the Southwest National Primate Research Center in Texas, moving them from a holding facility to a lab where they will be more readily available for invasive research.

Before living at APF, these individuals endured years of research or use as “breeders” to make babies to be sent into research. New Mexico citizens and supporters nationwide; animal protection groups; actor Gene Hackman, who has a home in New Mexico; and New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson have all joined in urging the NIH to halt their transfer plans.

Pougie loves the little PVC tubing that our volunteers make for them. If you look closely you can see that he has the whole tube in his mouth sticking out on each side of his cheek. He would pop it out pick at the tubing with his long fingers for a little bit, then, pop it all back in his mouth!!
